Funders
We are very grateful for the initial support for the foundational research for the BMO Lab that was provided by the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) in the form of an Insight Development Grant.
The Lab would not exist without the truly visionary donation we received from BMO Financial Group. We are deeply grateful that BMO and their director of Community Giving, Nada Ristich, saw fit to provide substantial funding to as unusual a proposition as an AI research lab within a centre for theatre and performance. This gift has made possible a remarkable place for an extremely diverse range of disciplines to come together.
The Lab is also extremely grateful for the support of the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) for their assistance in furthering collaborations between Germany and Canada.
Academic Partners
We are thrilled to have been able to build partnerships across the University of Toronto including:
Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences
Faculty of Music
Department of Computer Science
Faculty of Information Science
Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society
Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology
and our home department, the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies
In addition, we are collaborating extensively with researchers at Dalhousie University, the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and Concordia University.
Creative Partnerships
We have built a strong relationship with the theatre community in Toronto.
Most significantly, we have partnered with the premiere theatre company in Toronto, Canadian Stage, to support performer-in-residence programs, and to co-produce a production of Bertolt Brecht’s The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui. This relationship has allowed us to work with some of the best professional performers in the country.
We have also supported workshop processes, and provided advise and technical support for a variety of members of the Toronto performance community including the immersive theatre company Outside the March, as well as numerous independent theatre artists.
